What is Contrasts?
Contrasts began as the framework for my culminating senior recital at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music. After months of planning, many of my own distant ideas, and input from team members and mentors involved in the creation of this recital, Contrasts moved beyond a standard recital into an immersive artistic experience. Contrasts is centered around the idea of opposites not only in music, but also in art, lighting, photography, culture, and perception. The goal of this recital is not merely to present a number of musical works in succession with the typical performer centered concert hall experience, but to challenge the traditional expectation of what a concert experience truly is by making the entire recital an audience centered sensory experience. Throughout the performance, the audience is encouraged to allow their attention to wander around the performance venue and experience the recital as a creative whole, not just as a presentation of music. It is my sincere hope that each and every audience member connects to some creative aspect of the performance, and is in turn able to create a unique perspective about music and art.
